Tricks and Tips for Sending Packages to PNG
February 20, 2009 by admin
1. Wrap the box or package with an extra amount of tape. It not only preserves the package and its contents but discourages people from helping themselves. (Look what a package can look like with “normal” wear and tear…this package had fallen apart in transit and someone had graciously repackaged it for us along the way.)
2. If you have a lot of packages to send, it is better to send several smaller ones then one larger one.
3. If you want to go the extra mile… wrap individual items with gift wrap. Packages sent like this appear to have a lot higher chance of making it through without getting taken or taxed.
4. When filling out the contents list…lump things together by category and be creative in thinking up words that describe your items in a package. Most are trained to watch for key words. ie. DVD, CD, etc., instead use words like motion picture, music, etc.,
6. Try to send Christmas packages a little before or after the Holiday season. This allows the package to arrive in the shortest amount of time and avoids packages being left idle waiting for an empty flight.
7. A hand-written label on the package “For Missionary Use Only” appears to help some of the time.
8. In our situation, please DO put a dollar value on the items listed. Not doing so, causes unnecessary red flags in the delivery process.
9. Do not mix smelly items with food items. (Even taco seasoning can completely ruin the taste of chocolate.)
10. Never send money in a package.
11. Please include in an email the date shipped and all contents in an email to us so that we can be aware of what you are sending. When packages go AWOL we have been able to track them down if we have sufficient information.
12. Use Ziplocs whenever possible to avoid huge messes on the other end. (Yes, things do get ugly…) Here is a pic of a box of chocolates someone sent over one time…
If you do not know what to send to us please check out Missionary Blogs who have done quite a bit of research on this topic in addition to what I have written here.
